It’s been a while since we’ve last spoke.
Let’s recap: I was an extreme workaholic unable to balance work and play, burnt out by never taking a break but taking every job offered even if I didn’t have the bandwidth. I saw a quieter way of living out in the desert, put all of my active projects on hold indefinitely, and went essentially off the grid for upwards of two years.
I was waiting to return to entertainment/business/social media until I was “recovered from burnout” as if it were easily delineated like BC and AD. Spoiler: it’s not. Turns out those instagram quote posts claiming that '“healing is not linear” are actually factual.
Logging into substack to write this, and this is the first thing I see:
You don’t know how much I needed that. “I want to live at a pace I can sustain and be healthy at.” That part. It’s a necessary reminder because being back in LA has me feeling the incessant pulse of productivity and the need to be making something for consumption at every turn. I can easily get swept up in social media, seeing how much everyone else is doing and I can feel like I’m not doing enough (I know I’m not alone in this).
I want to shine some light on the overlooked things that we should be celebrating. In my latest YouTube video, I talked about how we should honor the small steps along the way, and not just wait until we’ve completed an arduous or lofty task to feel good about ourselves and our efforts. So I want to start doing a collective celebration over here where we can share one small thing/step/choice that’s making us feel better or enhancing our experience in some way.
