Today, I speak with content creator/author/co-star/friend Joanna Franco about everything we learned while shooting our Netflix show. We go into defining the “IT factor”, being self-made, and even discuss YouTube vs. mainstream celebrity.
Separation of Work vs. Worth
“It’s not healthy to work this hard.”
It’s been practically drilled into our heads that the more we work, the more we’re worth. If we aren’t grinding, we aren’t getting closer to our goals. There is so much pressure placed on us to achieve success. But oftentimes, it comes at the expense of our mental health.
Yes, it’s easier to tell someone to “take a break” than actually do it. There’s a multitude of reasons why any of us aren’t able to step aside from our workload. But you can cut yourself some slack for the things you haven’t had the capacity to tackle.
That raise is coming. You’ll achieve your next goal. Give yourself time—you’ve earned it.
The Stigma of “Self-Made”
“The best you can be is you, authentically.”
You may be aware of—or maybe have even experienced—the stigma of being self-made. There are always those who look down upon innovators for attempting something outside of the norm. But pushback doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.
Invest your time and energy into what brings you joy. If you believe in your ideas, that makes them worth pursuing.
What Opens Doors
“Tomorrow you could choose to do something totally different.”
You are more than your credentials. Often, what opens doors of opportunity isn’t your resume, but you. Your energy, your passion, how you represent your goals and desires—these facets of your personality far outweigh your description on paper.
So don’t limit your scope of possibilities. If you’re willing to put yourself out there, there will be someone who recognizes your worth.
