This week I went on a road trip for the first time.
The furthest I’ve ever driven was six hours from Jacksonville to Miami when I was auditioning for a dance movie. And sometimes the LA traffic feels like I’m on a roadtrip that’ll never end but in honor of Fun June™, I wanted to go on an inspiration trip. Sometimes, I’ll walk around the block with headphones in, imagining my life is a movie, sometimes I’ll take the long way during a drive and notice the small things I normally wouldn’t notice. I remember when I was in high school, the saying ‘find inspiration everywhere’ would echo in my mind.
I have notoriously only traveled for work. A few New Year’s Eve trips here and there, but nothing that screamed vacation like I see people post on Instagram in the summertime. Since fun has been the priority and this month’s challenge, I decided to dedicate a trip for artistic rejuvenation and inspiration. Joe and I have wanted to do a road trip for a while, and when the opportunity arose to stay in Utah for a week, we cleared our schedules and set our sights on interstate 15 for 10 hours straight. We made a point to stop at any place that pulled our interest, eyes and iPhone cameras open to capture anything that could be used for inspiration in the future. The best part about taking pictures of things that you find interesting is that you don’t need to know why or what you’ll do with it. So many times I’ll randomly take photos on a walk and years later I will stumble upon it and it’ll make sense then. The important part is being open and slowing down enough to see what the world is consistently offering, if we only made time to look.
