I AM DUST DEEP IN DIY.
If you’re here, you’re no stranger to my life of DIY. For the Corner Project members, I want to take you behind the scenes of some of my current projects that I don’t post on social media and introduce a design column where you can send in your questions, ideas, really anything you are thinking about regarding the home, entertaining, interiors, you know- Martha Stewart stuff but for the era of the center part.
I’ve teased this in the past for about a year because I’m contractually obligated to NOT say too much, but I was shooting a travel project and it’s FINALLY COMING OUT. I can't tell you too much more, but you’ll be hearing from me in June, and don’t worry- you’ll then be inundated with photos of beaches and foreign locations, you’d think I’m an actual travel person).
When shows finally come out, the cast has to do press. I notoriously HATE press and interviews because my anxiety thinks it’s also being interviewed. However, I know that it’s a part of this job I’ve chosen and my favorite way to be interviewed is not in person, but via online write ups (and that’s on anxiety). I prefer things being in writing and not on video so that I don’t have to cringe at every time I stutter. It’s not on my bucket list to yell at a tv screen some effortlessly charming and cheeky reply I feel like I should have said to every question asked. With digital articles, you need photos to supply to the outlets that show who you are at first glance.
We all have heard that a photo says a thousand words. And the thousand words that I want these photos to say are every synonym for ‘cool design chick’. So I am finally finishing some home DIYs I had started over the years and have never gotten around to following through after the first few paint strokes and swatches. You can literally see in a few videos on my channel that I just couldn’t get around to doing more than one blurb of taupe.
I’m using Roman Clay from Portola Paints in the shade ‘In The Navy’ for my upstairs bookcase:
Portola’s Roman Clay is an eco-friendly plaster finish that you apply with a putty knife and gives a smooth material a textured finish with lots of depth and movement.
This has taken days off of my life, but oh it better be damn worth it when I look like I’m on the cover of Architectural Digest.
It is slowly but surely coming together and in between breaks of this deep sea of shelves, I’m also prepping another room for a different color of Roman Clay: Highland. I’m already currently swooning over the entire spectrum of green, but THIS?! This is something for the gods. I love the energetic movements with the calming tones of this natural mossy green:
This is sadly not my place but off the Portola website, but I’ll be sure to share the professional photos of the interior after the shoot is underway because as of right now, this is what that room looks like (hold your screams):
Which means I’ve got to end this post to go start applying hours worth of roman clay putty and hopefully I’ll get a two hour deep tissue massage because that’ll me the closest to an arm workout I’ve done in over a year and I’m not mad at it.
Coming soon: I’m going to start a Design Column where you can send any questions or space quandaries that I’ll do my best to help ideate with you or maybe you can learn from my mistakes and deciphering what’s worth spending on and what’s worth DIYing! Look out for the discussion thread coming soon to submit your situations and the future post where we talk and tackle solutions together xM
I says to my husband the other day I says "Man I wish Megan could just re-do our living room" ... He asked who Megan was... "My friend from the internet and youtube duhhhh"
Does anyone know the cost of Portola's roman clay or lime wash? I am truly OBSESSED, but I can't find the price anywhere!
